Victoria Falls

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)

Today I learned about Victoria Falls and that Victoria Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls on the planet. It is located along the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, two countries in southern Africa. I also learned that Victoria Falls is considered to be the largest waterfall in the world. And – it’s about one mile wide and 360 feet high (109m)! This amazing sheet of falling water can be heard from miles away. The spray and mist from the waterfall can be seen from many miles away, too. In fact, local tribes first called the waterfall “Mosi-oa-Tunya.” That means “the smoke that thunders.” But the falls received another name in 1855. That year, a Scottish explorer came across the waterfall. His name was David Livingstone. He named it Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria, who was ruling Great Britain at the time.

  1. Hi Cyris! It's Miro H. from Paroa school here! I love your amazing writing! It's cool how you explained why it is called Victoria falls, and told us some facts. Do you think you would want to go to this waterfall is someone told you you could?
